Spring is upon us and that means that many young men will be graduating from college and moving onto the next step in life. Firstly, moving out of the disaster area called the “college home” and moving into the first real home.  After getting the essential furniture and appliances one must look at drink-wear.  As a young professional you are going to have to let some things go.  Sure, you might occasional dust off the beer bong and take straight shots to take it up a notch, but what to do if you plan on having a “Mad Men” theme party or just entertain guests?    It’s time to class up your drinking by ditching your “Spring Break ’08 destination” plastic cups and stock your cabinets with true drinking chalices.

Beer-
Beer is fine in cans and bottles, but to truly impress visitors supply them with a glass specifically designed for the type of beer.  A pilsner glass is tall, slender, and perfect for light beers.  If you are a wheat beer fan, invest in the ingeniously named Wheat Beer Glass. These are narrow at the bottom and broader at the top to give excessive head room.

Champagne-
Even if only used once a year, own a champagne flute.

Cocktails-
For those trying to evoke their inner James Bond, make sure you are drinking from a Martini Glass. This glass is perfect for all types of straight-up drinks (martini, Manhattan’s). The whiskey expert must own a few Old-fashioned glasses.  These short and round glasses are perfect for liquor served on the rocks or with a splash.

Other-
For drinks not listed above one cannot go wrong with the Highball glass.  These are straight-sided glasses that prove more stylish when serving mixed drinks to guests, as apposed to plastic cups from the dollar store.

  1. Good article! But you forgot about the wine glass. I am only now beggining to appreciate wine thanks to an earlier article I read on the site, but it’s probably time I stop drinking it from the bottle.

Jon thanks for the comment. When I was writing this article the thought to include wine glasses crossed my mind. However, I believe that since wine glasses have over ten varieties I would not be able to do them their proper justice and not give them their own article. Keep the comments coming though!

  3. Alright, amazing article. Glad I ran across it by way of Google search, to bad it turned out on page ten of search results. It appears as if your operating WordPress on your internet site, you need to check into this plugin for WordPress at myseopressor.com it has considerably helped me with my website rankings in Google Search. I’d hate to see your useful article not be encountered by others. All the best with your site.

  4. I am sure you get a lot of kudos for your writing skills but I thought I will drop you a line anyways – keep up the good work
